Val-d’Isère lies at the very end of the Tarentaise valley in Savoie, at the foot of the Col de l’Iseran, which is closed in winter. In the ski season, the resort can therefore only be reached through the valley, via Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Its ski area is shared with Tignes.
